Nominations for the Educator of the Year Categories

Hello Fellow Irving ATPE Members!
I hope that everyone had a restful break!  We have a VERY important deadline coming up!  Nominations for the Educator of the Year Categories for State ATPE are due January 29th This is a time for us to recognize the amazing educators, associates, support staff, and administrators.  Please take a moment to nominate a fellow educator and share.  Last year the Irving Unit was represented in 3 different categories.  Please fill out the form here http://bit.ly/IrvingATPEAwards15

Virtual Meeting



Welcome to a great new year with Irving ATPE!  We have lots of exciting things planned.

-Region 10 Meetings

-January 9, 2015- A New Year Social
-We will be doing an Easter Egg collection in February for March 28th- more information to come
-Political forum
-We are looking at forming a team for a 5k
-End of Year Awards
--Grant- for workshops you would like to attend- There are 3 $500 ones available yearly- applications due by December 5th
--Scholarship- for continuing education in education $750 for professional and $750 associate
Application due by December 5th 
--Educator of the Year applications due January 30th- Elementary Teacher of the Year, Secondary Teacher of the Year, Support Services of the Year, Associate of the Year, Administrator of the Year
All of the applications will be online by the middle of October.  
Crystal Apple Awards-community members and volunteers- above and beyond the call of duty March 20th

A Letter from the President



Welcome to our Irving ATPE 2014-2015 Year!
Thank all of you for your dedication to Irving ATPE. Because of you, Irving ATPE thrives.  We are fortunate to have you as a member. We hope that you will stay connected with Irving ATPE through our website irvingatpe.blogspot.com and our Facebook page Irving ATPE Facebook . These resources help us stay informed of upcoming events in our local, region and state ATPE.  We hope that this year you take advantage of the Each One Reach One Campaign.
Check out what ATPE has to offer by visiting www.atpe.org There are many benefits to use.  At our state website you can learn more details about legal services, advocacy benefits, and discounts offered.  As educators of Texas children we need to stay well informed on current issues that affect us, our families and those that we teach. TeachTheVote.org is available to keep you informed on how our Texas leaders are supporting education.
It is important that you keep your contact information current for ATPE to stay in contact with you through email, mailings, magazines, and phone calls. Our goal once again is to have direct email to each of our Irivng ATPE members, but we can only do this if we have current information.
This year promises to be another great year in Irving ATPE. Your officers are here for you, so please contact one of us should you need anything.  We welcome your comments, suggestions, and questions. We look forward to renewing old friendships and making new ones.  Please mark your calendar to join us at our meetings.
Our officers have some very exciting plans for this year!  Our first meeting will be virtual on September 12th.

Irving ATPE Opportunities

Dear ATPE Members,

Your leaders have set a goal to encourage every campus to either nominate or recruit someone else to nominate, at least one person or organization for an Irving ATPE award.
Nominations will be due by April 21st.  Persons nominated for the various awards will be asked to fill out an application that will need to be returned by April 30th.

ATPE Meeting on Tuesday February 25th

Please accept this invitation to attend our Association of Texas Professional Educators ATPE meeting on Tuesday, February 25th where you can meet State Board of Education candidates and local school board candidates and members. 

We will have a chance to meet Dr. Parra and welcome him to Irving ISD.
Our meeting will begin at 5:00, but you are welcome to begin arriving around 4:30 to visit with early arrivers. Refreshments will be served.

ATPE Awards, Grants and Scholarships

Dear ATPE Members,

Your leaders have set a goal to encourage every campus to either nominate or recruit someone else to nominate, at least one person or organization for an ATPE award, grant, scholarship, local award, region award, and/or state award.

Below is a brief explanation of each of these awards. Please look them over and determine how you will help ATPE recognize those deserving people and organizations.

Please notice that each award has a deadline date and a person/location to receive it.

Cardwell Enrichment Grant
The Cardwell Enrichment Grant will enable educators to enrich their teaching practices through inservice, workshops or classes.  Recipients of this grant will be honored at the September Irving ATPE meeting.  Each recipient will be expected to make a short (5 minute) presentation describing how this course, workshop or inservice will be implemented in their classroom/curriculum. 

Crystal Apple Award
The Crystal Apple Award program has been designed to recognize those in the community who make a difference in the education of students in the Irving ISD. A nominee must have given some time on a campus and made an effort to improve the well-being and educational foundation of Irving I.S.D. students. Business (Partners in Education … Other); Community (DAR … Heritage Society … Big Brother/Big Sister … League of Women Voters … Parents); Civic (Police … Fire … Etc.); Education (Teacher … PTA … IEA … ATPE … Retired Teachers)
ATPE Educator of the Year Awards The ATPE Educator of the Year Awards acknowledge those ATPE members who demonstrate exceptional or innovative capabilities in their respective education fields. The recipients will receive a check for $1,000 at the state level. The Educator of the Year Awards are divided into five categories: Administrator of the Year; Associate of the Year; Elementary Teacher of the Year; Secondary Teacher of the Year; Special Services Educator of the Year. These awards are given at the local, region, and state levels. Monetary awards vary at each level. 
Judy Coyle Memorial - part of the Irving Schools Foundation program. Each year we give four, $1000.00 scholarships to four IISD seniors who are going into education. (Students apply through ISF for these.)
